Hence the need to use water conditioners. They are primarily used to neutralize the chlorine in tap water so that it becomes safe for your aquarium fish.

If you don’t wait to add fish at all after adding the water conditioner, especially if you only replace a small portion of the water, then you shouldn’t have to wait long. However, if you are replacing all of the water, you should add the water conditioner first before you put the fish in to ensure their safety.
As I mentioned earlier, chemicals like chlorine can cause stress in your aquarium fish. Therefore, it is important to make sure that the water they live in has been properly treated before you put them in the tank.
Water conditioners usually contain chemicals that are able to neutralize compounds like chlorine and chloramines within a few minutes. For small water changes, you don’t have to worry too much.
For a full water change, first remove the fish from the aquarium, treat the water with a suitable water conditioner, wait the treatment time, and then reintroduce the fish.
For most people, the water conditioner and dechlorinator can neutralize the chlorine within seconds of coming in contact with the chlorine molecules.
For tanks with adequate water flow and an active water pump that distributes the water conditioner evenly throughout the tank, a waiting period of two to five minutes is usually sufficient before introducing fish.
Can I put my fish in the tank instantly?
The short and simple answer is no. You cannot simply put your fish into a tank without any preparation. If you put your fish in a tank right away, they could die or at least develop serious health problems.

How long do I have to wait before putting fish in a new aquarium?
When putting fish into an aquarium, there are many things that need to be considered beforehand. One of these is the amount of time the fish should spend in quarantine before being introduced to the rest of the aquarium.

Do water conditioners kill fish?
If you use a water conditioner, don’t use too much of it. Usually, that’s fine. But if you find that the product is overdosed, don’t use it anymore. Just throw it away.
Since water conditioners are safe, you can put them in your aquarium without removing fish. Of course, it all depends on the amount. You shouldn’t add too much of one type of water conditioner, as this could damage your filter. But you also shouldn’t add too little, because then your fish won’t get enough oxygen.
Even though smaller tanks are more difficult to handle than larger ones, there is no reason why you shouldn’t use them. As long as you follow the manufacturer’s instructions for adding conditioner, the chances of harming your fish by adding too much conditioner are pretty low.
If you want to condition aquarium water, use a water conditioner
There are two ways to condition your water with a water conditioner:
1. Container
You should always take care of your aquarium water before adding any additives. Before you add anything to the aquarium, you should clean the water first.
2. Hose
You can add the conditioner to the container when the water is added to the container. If you use the tank option, you only need enough conditioner for the water in the tank; no additional conditioner is needed.
If you are using the hose option, you will need to determine the correct amount of conditioner to treat the entire aquarium. Then pour it slowly into the water as the water flows into the tank.
